Dave Chappelle most notably was a known admirer of Prince by making him apart of his classic series, The Chappelle Show. Today we came across what Dave feels about the sudden death.  Last night in San Francisco it is documented that Chappelle dedicated a four hour show to Prince which he went on to call Prince’s passing,  “The black 9/11”. COS went on to point out the story.

In the midst of a sold-out run of shows at the Chapel in San Francisco, comedian Dave Chappelle dedicated last night’s performance to the memory of Prince, who died early Thursday morning at the age of 57. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Chappelle hit the stage around 2 a.m. looking somber in a button-down black shirt and jeans. “This is black 9/11,” he told the audience. “I almost thought about not coming tonight, but my band was like, ‘Yo, Prince would definitely not condone that.”

In a seperate statement to CBS Minnesota’s Reg Chapman, Chappelle gave a more in-depth response on Prince.

“As a city, they exported a musical giant. It says a lot about them that at the height of his fame he chose to stay in Minneapolis. His admirers are a community that spans the globe. His legacy is an immense offering of music, love and laughter. And a fight for fairness to artist. Nothing of this world will begin to fill the void of his absence except his memory. Scientifically a memory is almost neurologically identical to an experience. So remember your loved ones often. Forget their faults and remember the best of what they made you feel. In that way … all of us are immortal gifts to one another that keeps on giving.”

Here’s what 5 other comedians had to say about his passing via Twitter.
